Barnsley captain Alex Mowatt is reportedly set to have his West Bromwich Albion medical later this week before following Valerien Ismael to the Hawthorns on a free transfer, which has been well-received by many Baggies fans.

Ismael shocked many by taking the Tykes to the play-offs last term but left Oakwell to become West Brom's new head coach last week.

According to John Percy from The Telegraph, the 45-year-old coach is now close to making Mowatt his first signing as Baggies boss.

The Barnsley skipper is out of contract this summer but despite having been offered new terms by the Yorkshire club is set to reunite with Ismael at Albion.

It is understood that the 26-year-old midfielder will have his medical later this week before joining the West Midlands outfit on a free transfer, barring any unexpected issues.

Mowatt has been a key figure for the Tykes for the past three seasons – helping them secure promotion to the Championship in 2018/19, avoid relegation dramatically the following season, and reach the play-offs last term.

It seems he is now set to leave the club, however, with Albion the club that are going to profit.

This update has certainly been well received by the Hawthorns faithful, with many fans taking to Twitter to voice their excitement...
