Middlesbrough will be looking to continue their great recent form this weekend as they host Sunderland in the Tees-Wear Derby.

The men from the Riverside seem to have turned a corner and are now well in contention for those play-off places with Marcus Tavernier's impact certainly something to shout about.

How good could the young winger be, though? Here's our take...

Alfie Burns

Despite Boro spending a ridiculous amount of money over the summer, the youngster could prove to be Garry Monk’s best find.

Tavernier’s performances in the last week have helped Boro climb to the brink of the Championship’s play-off zone, and there is real belief around the Riverside Stadium that Monk is beginning to get things right.

The 18-year-old brings a fearless approach to the Boro first-team, he could turn into a real talent if he stays grounded.

Chris Gallagher

The signs are very promising.

Fair play to the 18-year old, he has performed well in the Carabao Cup which has seen him grab a spot in the team recently for the league.

That shows just how highly he is rated, particularly with the competition in the final third at Boro.

He needs time to develop, but he could be a fantastic player.

George Dagless

He's revitalised Middlesbrough.

The Teessiders were struggling for form but Tavernier has come in and really helped them spark into life with some great displays out wide.

He's going to have a dip in form as he is so young but he looks a great talent and he should be given credit for seizing his chance, as well as Garry Monk for keeping him in the team.
