Derby County's mixed season continues after a draw at the weekend left Phillip Cocu's side down in 13th place in the Championship, still seven points off the play-off places heading into the final third of the season.

Cocu is looking to the future though, with the Rams one of the clubs being linked with Crewe Alexandra right-back Perry Ng, according to a report by TEAMtalk, with the 23-year-old enjoying a fine season at Gresty Road.

So would Ng be a good signing for the Rams and is he good enough for the Championship?

We discuss.........

Josh Cole

“This could prove to be a shrewd addition by Derby if they can seal a deal for Ng this summer.

“One of Crewe’s stand-out performers this season, the defender has helped his side launch a push for automatic promotion in League Two by making 30 appearances for the club.

“As well as illustrating that he is more than capable of reading the game in a defensive sense, Ng has also provided a threat going forward as he is produced five direct goal contributions in all competitions.

“If is he able to replicate these displays in the Championship with the Rams, there is no reason why he cannot challenge Jayden Bogle for a place in manager Phillip Cocu’s starting eleven during the 2020/21 campaign.”

"I think that Ng could be a really exciting signing for Derby County, especially for the long run, as it's a signing that I feel that they need to go and make.

"Derby definitely need reinforcements in defence this summer as they have conceded far too many goals in the Championship this season, and it speaks volumes when you're having to play Andre Wisdom at centre-back.

"They have been putting square pegs in round holes this season so Phillip Cocu should look to bolster his defensive options in the summer, and Ng is certainly an exciting prospect.

"He has been performing consistently well in League Two over the past few years, and is able to play at right-back or centre-half, which makes him a potentially useful option for the Rams.

"Whether it's too much of a jump up remains to be seen."

Chris Thorpe

"This would certainly be an interesting addition for the Rams if they managed to pull off a deal for the Crewe defender.

"Ng has been one of the best performing full backs operating in the lower reaches of the Football League and at the age of 23 is seemingly ready to step up and test himself at a higher level.

"It is hard to say if the 23-year-old is good enough to fit in at Championship level, however if he made the move to Pride Park, he would be working with a manager in the form of Phillip Cocu that has shown a great tendency to successfully develop young players both at Derby and PSV in the past.

"A financially lucrative deal for the right back would surely be too hard to turn down for a club of Crewe's size, so therefore it wouldn't be suprising to see the player move on this summer."
