Huddersfield Town manager Danny Cowley will hope his side can get back to winning ways following the international break, when the Terriers host Birmingham City this weekend.

Cowley though, is already looking at ways of further strengthening his squad, with Torquay United striker Jamie Reid a target, as exclusively revealed by us here at FLW, a player who has scored 14 goals in 21 appearances already this season.

So would Reid be a good addition at Huddersfield and is he actually needed?

We discuss........

Kris Smith

“This would be a solid signing from the Terriers, given his goal-scoring record over the past two seasons and the fact it wouldn’t be an expensive acquisition.

“In the last two seasons at Torquay, Reid has been exceptional as the Gulls look to clinch promotion back to the Football League.

“Last season, he netted 29 league goals which would be exceptional on its own, but he has also already scored 14 this season in a division higher, showing that he’s improving his game.

“Huddersfield may have to fend without Karlan Grant if his Premier League interest materialises so signing someone equally as lethal in front of goal would be good business, regardless of the division he’s in.”

Chris Thorpe

"I think this could be a good move for Huddersfield, as they would be bringing in another proven goalscorer to play alongside Karlan Grant, who has had to shoulder much of the goal scoring responsibility this term.

"A lot more league clubs are keen to take risks with signing non-league talent, and as we have seen with the likes of Charlie Austin and Jamie Vardy, the decision to delve into the non-league market can really pay off.

"Reid would offer something different to what Huddersfield already have, meaning that it seems pretty obvious why he is being pursued by the Terriers ahead of a January move.

"Torquay United will most probably have their hands tied on this one, with the non-league club surely having to bow to Huddersfield's advances if a move was to come to fruition for the former Exeter City striker."

“Reid has certainly been in prolific form in the National League so far this campaign, registering 14 goals in the league already, and that has shown he has the potential to step up to a higher level and test himself for a side in the Football League.

“Huddersfield are in need of strengthening their forward line in the January window, and Cowley will be looking to the club’s board to back him and allow him to shape the squad and bring his own players, with his side a little too reliant on Karlan Grant to score their goals so far this season.

“Reid would arrive full of confidence and belief in his own ability and there have been players, such as Jamie Vardy, who have made the leap from the National League to the Championship and managed to still perform to a high level.

“It would be interesting to see if Reid could make the step up from the National League to the Championship, but with Cowley having a lot of knowledge of the lower leagues if he feels that the striker could then he could prove a very smart addition.”
