Although Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino is seemingly wanting to keep the average age of the squad down, Leeds still need experience in their side.

Barton could be set for a switch to Forest
Joey Barton to Leeds United? Thoughts?

The perfect man for Leeds United could be Joey Barton, with the eccentric midfielder being released by QPR it could be battle of the egos at Leeds United if the Scouse star joins the club.

Barton has been an integral player for QPR since joining and was one of the main stars of the show when QPR were last promoted from the Championship. His steel and determination drove QPR forward and his experience and reading of the game could be a godsend for Leeds United.

With Leeds United releasing the only power they had in midfield with the departure of Rodolph Austin, Leeds are severely lacking any menace in a midfield that is full of technique and flair.

If the Yorkshire outfit are to push for a higher position this season, the club could do with the addition of Barton in their midfield.

Barton possesses a fantastic eye for a pass and is known for his tyrannical approach in midfield, the fact he gets stuck in his one of the reasons Leeds could do with a player of his calibre. In a squad that has a core of youth players, Barton could be someone who could nurture their talent as long as he doesn't turn them to the wrong path that he has been down.

Barton is no role model but he is a fantastic footballer and the 32-year-old has paid his dues and has started to calm down when he's on the pitch, he's no longer the thug that kicked out at Sergio Aguero on the final game of the season years ago.

Two stumbling blocks to any deal are his wage demands and his age, with Massimo Cellino wanting to bring younger players into the fold at Elland Road.

The problem being that if Leeds don't add experience to their side they could suffer another disappointing season with the young players still finding their feet in the league.
