With star striker Danny Ings departing the club, could Burnley be set to replace him with another top forward?

Burnley could look at Murphy as a replacement for Ings

If Burnley are serious about their intentions to regain top flight status next summer, then investment in their side will be pivotal to their success next season.

With the departure of the talent that is Ings, Burnley are left with a giant void in their side. The void of the main goalscorer is one that is not easily filled, Burnley have had somewhat success in this area, having being able to replace their key player each time he moves on. Including the likes of Jay Rodriguez, Charlie Austin and now Danny Ings.

With the only recognised strikers at the club being Sordell, Barnes and Vokes, Burnley risk going backwards if they do not bring in a main striker who can breach the 15 goal barrier which can send a club up.

The perfect man for the job could be last season's top scorer Daryl Murphy. The Irish international has performed better than expected in a superb season for the Tractorboys and most of the praise should be at Murphy's feet.

Murphy has seen this season as a chance to fulfil his potential to be a tyrannical goal threat in the Championship, scoring 27 goals in 45 starts for the side, including 6 assists.

Last season's form is astounding when compared with his previous spells at clubs including Celtic, Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday.

His goal tally of 27 has seen his career figures double at the age of 32-years-old and his form does not look set to stop.

Murphy could be a fantastic option for Burnley to bring in on the cheap. With Ipswich set for another season in the Championship and could struggle to regain the form they have seen, forcing Murphy to look elsewhere to reach the heights of English football in the twilight of his career.
