Sheffield Wednesday are plotting a move to sign Sylla Sow this summer, according to a report from the Sheffield Star.

The Owls are looking to bring in offensive reinforcements and the 25-year-old Dutchman could be the man who is brought in to do just that.

Sow is currently without a club after leaving previous employers RKC Waalwijk in the Eredivisie where he scored 12 goals and created 10 more in 65 appearances in all competitions for the club.

A left-winger by trade, Sow can also play on the right wing or as a centre-forward meaning that he could be a valuable asset for Darren Moore over the course of a lengthy League One campaign.

So would the forward be a good addition for the Owls?

The team at FLW have their say...

Ben Wignall This would be dipping into the somewhat unknown for Sheffield Wednesday for a player that has never played in Britain before - and do the club really need any more strikers? Darren Moore has bolstered his front-line with Lee Gregory and Florian Kamberi this summer - they have added to both Callum Paterson and Josh Windass when they're both fully fit to create quite a powerful forward line for League One. Sow is of a good age though at 25 and has been playing at a decent level in the Eredivisie in Holland, however seven league goals in 48 matches would be a cause for concern. It isn't exactly prolific but that doesn't always matter - just look at what Paul Mullin did last season for Cambridge in League Two and you'll see that good strikers can have an incredible season out of nowhere. Despite naturally being a striker though, Sow can play in both wide positions and even though yet again Wednesday seem to have enough in that department to get by, if Sow's wages aren't on the steep side then he could provide some additional depth and be a success.

Jacob Potter He could be worth a punt for the Owls this summer. Sow primarily operates as a left-midfielder, and Sheffield Wednesday certainly need to strengthen that area of their team, with both Adam Reach and Kadeem Harris leaving the club at the end of the 2020/21 season. Sow is a free-agent, and therefore wouldn't cost Darren Moore's side any fee up-front, which could make it a smart bit of business by the Owls. Competition for places is the ideal dilemma to have for a manager, and with Sow having five goal involvements last term for RKC Waalwijk, he could be a strong option to have for Sheffield Wednesday, if they got a deal over the line to land his signature. I like the sound of this potential deal, as it's a risk-free move for Sheffield Wednesday. Ned Holmes This is an interesting one. Sow's recent record in the Eredivisie is decent and he's a versatile forward, so could prove a useful addition to Darren Moore's squad but you wonder whether the Owls might be starting to slip back into old ways with this signing. Yes, the Dutchman is a free agent but that doesn't mean that this deal isn't going to cost Wednesday and you wonder whether given the other options in the squad right now it's a move that's really necessary. It seems a little high risk to me and the last thing the club want to be doing is agreeing a deal with a player that they end up regretting. For me, that is exactly what this could be.
