Middlesbrough are weighing up a surprise swoop for Everton winger Yannick Bolasie, as per Sky Sports' Keith Downie.

The 31-year-old is firmly out of the picture at Goodison Park and the Toffees could be prepared to let him leave on loan, with the Merseyside outfit having to pay a large chunk of the player's wages should a deal with Boro materialise.

So, would Bolasie be a good addition for Neil Warnock's Boro? Is he required?

This has the potential to be an excellent signing for Middlesbrough.

Boro have needed to bring in a pacy, skilful winger for a while now. They’ve lacked any real speed and creativity in midfield since the days of Adama Traore and even Albert Adomah, and the arrival of Bolasie would certainly solve that issue.

Bolasie is a player who has really impressed at the highest level, but he’s fallen out of favour at Everton and had mixed loan spells at the likes of Anderlecht and Sporting Lisbon.

He may now be 31-years-old, but he is still very fast and has several tricks in his locker, and I think his end product would be beneficial for the likes of Ashley Fletcher and Britt Assombalonga up top.

My only problem over this transfer deal would have been the finances, as he was said to be on a large wage at Aston Villa, but the fact that Everton will have to subsidise a large chunk of his wages will be massive for Boro from a club perspective.

Time will tell.

He's a player of considerable talent, we know that, but he'll want to show his fitness is at a good level, particularly in this congested Championship season that lies ahead.

He's a player with pace and power out wide and plenty of tricks so he could be a menace at Championship level but it's all about finding consistency and getting up to speed quickly with Bolasie.

He's certainly cut a positive figure on social media and, if he signs, he will be determined to prove himself so, if he does, it's going to be a good signing I would imagine.

This could prove to be a smart bit of business.

Bolasie isn't going to be anywhere near the Everton first-team this season, so it would make sense for him to be heading out on loan before the transfer window closes.

Middlesbrough could be the ideal destination for him as well, as they're crying out for a player of his creative ability.

But he has struggled in recent years in terms of staying fit, so it'll be interesting to see if he can recapture the type of form that saw him impress with Crystal Palace earlier in his career.

It's somewhat of a coup for Boro though, as I thought a number of other teams in the Championship would be keen on a deal to sign the winger.

If he can hit the ground running and find some consistency in his performances with Neil Warnock's side, then he could prove to be one of the signings of the season in the Championship.
