Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer faces a race against time to get striker Lyle Taylor tied down to a new deal, with Nottingham Forest just one of the clubs monitoring the player, according to a report on TEAMtalk.

Taylor has impressed since arriving at the Valley in 2018 and has managed to chip-in with 26 goals in 48 appearances in all competitions and despite picking up an injury earlier this season, interest in the 29-year-old remains.

So could Taylor cut it at Forest and would he be a good addition at the City Ground?

We discuss........

Kris Smith

“This could be a very smart signing from Forest as Taylor would not command a huge fee with his contract expiring at the end of the season if they wanted to sign him immediately.

“Taylor has proven to be a key part of Charlton’s side over the past 18 months, as his 22 goals and 11 assists helped the ide to promotion via the League One play-offs, and despite injury this season he has still scored five in seven games with one assist.

“Taylor would certainly fit in at Forest who are lacking strength in depth behind Lewis Grabban and need more options if they are to sustain their promotion push this campaign.

“His goal-scoring rate has proven he is good enough for a side in the top six, along with his all-round forward play too, with a lot more to his game than just goal scoring.”

Chris Thorpe

"This would be a great signing for Forest as it would greatly reduce the pressure on the shoulders of Lewis Grabban, who has been the City Ground side's main provider of goals this term.

"With Taylor being out of contract at the end of the current campaign, it may be a case of now or never if Charlton want to receive a fee for the forward, with the 29-year-old capable of leaving on a free in the summer.

"He would certainly add goals to the Forest frontline, whilst also offering a good work rate when pressing the opposition defence from the front, plus he can play as a lone striker and in a front two.

"Given that Forest are fighting in the upper echelons of the Championship table for promotion, this is definitely a move that would appeal to Taylor, who has spent most of his career at clubs of a somewhat smaller stature to that of Forest."

Ben Lang

"Forest should definitely be in the market for another goal-scoring presence in January, and I can certainly see why Taylor would appeal to them given his quality and likely transfer fee.

"Taylor's Charlton contract expires at the end of the season which means he could be available in a cheap deal, and this could see someone like Forest pull off a real coup in landing his services.

"The striker has been injured for the last three months, but he proved his ability to perform in the Championship prior to this, and there can be no doubt he would boost Forest's promotion bid in the second half of the season.

"However, it will be interesting to see whether he agrees to sign for Forest even though Grabban is the first-choice striker currently, as Taylor would surely face a battle for a starting place."
