After enjoying a hugely impressive season over in Australia for Sydney FC, Brandon O'Neill is a player in serious demand, with a host of clubs from the Championship eyeing up his signature.

The 25-year-old scored two goals and produced seven assists from midfield for the A-League side last season, establishing himself as one of the best midfielders down-under.

The defensive midfielder, who is valued at a price of around $400,000, has reportedly been watched by Nottingham Forest, with Queens Park Rangers and Blackburn Rovers also believed to be interested in the former Perth Glory man according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Here, we discuss whether he would be a good signing for Blackburn...

George Harbey

"A majority of people will probably see this as a bit of a risky signing given that he's never played in England before, but I think that O'Neill could be a very good signing for Blackburn.

"I think they definitely need to strengthen their midfield, especially if Jack Rodwell doesn't sign a new deal as they would be somewhat light in numbers.

"O'Neill looks to be a real leader on and off the pitch, and it's certainly a bonus that he's contributed to plenty of goals for Sydney last season.

"He's at a good age, and for $400,000, this move would surely be worth it."

Toby Wilding

"This may be a smart move for Rovers.

"With Harrison Reed’s loan expired and Jack Rodwell’s future far from certain, Rovers may well need to find themselves a new holding midfielder in the summer transfer to add an alternative to the current options of Lewis Travis, Corry Evans and Richie Smallwood.

"O’Neill appears to be set to offer the Lancashire side a cheap but experienced option in that position, allowing them to put more focus on recruiting in other positions which may need strengthening more urgently.

"It will be interesting to see how keen O’Neill is to make this move, given that it would involve him moving half way across the world to play somewhere other than his home country for the first time in his career."

Louie Chandler

"I think this would be a good addition to Blackburn's squad.

"Rovers are in a tricky position this summer. After establishing themselves last season they will be keen to push on but that will depend on whether the likes of Bradley Dack stay or go.

"But O'Neill would add some good depth to Tony Mowbray's squad as he is capable of playing a number of midfield roles as well as slotting in in defence.

"There will be question marks over whether or not he could adapt to the Championship having only played in Australia before but on a free transfer it is not to be sniffed at."

Gary Hutchinson

"A move to Blackburn would undoubtedly draw comparisons with Lucas Neill. He was another Australian player who thrived at Ewood Park.

"I like Blackburn as a side too, I think they’d offer the right environment for a developing player such as O’Neill. He’s gone as far as he can in Australia, if he wants to keep growing he has to find some success on this side on the world.

"He’s recently been capped for his country and that suggests he’s got a decent pedigree.

"The trouble is the adjustment period; he needs to find a side who can ease him in and not weigh expectation on his shoulder straight away.

"That’s Blackburn in my opinion."
