Lee Bowyer has confirmed that he and Charlton Athletic are interested in a move for Liverpool attacker Liam Millar, as quoted by the South London Press.

The young forward, who can play down the left or through the middle of a front three, has pace to burn and Bowyer has admitted he'd like to add someone like that with only Alfie Doughty a similar option in his current squad.

What do some of our team make of this potential deal, though? Let's take a look...

George Dagless

I think it could be a fine signing.

Millar is a player capable of beating a man and getting in the box with quick, direct runs out wide, whilst he can also play through the middle.

Lee Bowyer wants to add pace and width in the final third with Alfie Doughty, his only option in terms of those attributes, still struggling with injury, it would make sense to go after Millar.

The youngster will have a point to prove and at League One level I think we could see him really produce the goods.

The ultimate 2021 Charlton Athletic quiz – Can you get 24/24 correct?

Jacob Potter

Would he be good enough? I'm not so sure.

Millar didn't exactly have the best of spells in front of goal for Kilmarnock, whilst on loan with the Scottish side last season.

The forward only scored two goals in 36 appearances for them last season, and it's not surprising to see that he's not anywhere near the Liverpool first-team picture as of yet.

Charlton could benefit from adding depth to their squad this month, as they look to challenge for promotion back into the Championship, but I'm not sure that Millar is the answer for them.

The Reds youngster will be wanting to move to a club that can guarantee him regular minutes, and I just don't think Lee Bowyer's side will be able to offer him that this season.

It'd be too much of a risky signing for the Addicks, as there are more proven and experienced forwards out there in the transfer market for them to target.

Phil Spencer

This could be a very astute signing.

Liam Millar spent time on loan with Kilmarnock last term but failed to really hit the heights during his time at Rugby Park.

However this season he's showed glimpses that he's ready to kick on.

Three goals in the EFL Trophy brought two goals and an assist for Millar - a tally which will certainly have attracted the attention of Lee Bowyer.

Charlton need more attacking reinforcements this term and so the prospect of bringing in a young player with a real point to prove could turn out to be a masterstroke.

He'll be something of an unknown quantity in League One and that could make him hugely effective.
