Bristol City are reportedly keen on appointing Steven Gerrard as their new manager according to The Express.
Gerrard is currently in charge of Rangers, and guided them to a second-place finish in the Scottish Premiership in his first season in charge of the club.
Bristol City are searching for a new manager after recently parting company with Lee Johnson after a poor run of results in the Championship.
The Robins are currently sat 11th in the second tier standings, and will be keen to force themselves into the top-six with three matches remaining this term.
Bristol City picked up a much-needed three points against Middlesbrough in their last match, and are now just three points adrift of the play-off places.
But would Gerrard be a good appointment for Bristol City ahead of next season?
This could be a smart appointment for the Robins.
Despite not winning a league title just yet, Gerrard has done really well at Rangers since his appointment at Ibrox, and he has definitely turned the Glasgow side into a more competitive outfit in both the Europa League and the SPFL.
But Bristol City are a really ambitious club, and it’s clear to see where they want to be after they recently parted company with Lee Johnson.
Given the financial backing they gave Johnson in the summer, it’s clear that they think they are ready for the Premier League, and I personally feel that they need a more tried and trusted manager like Chris Hughton to take the reins at Ashton Gate.
This won’t happen.
Would it be a good appointment? I think it’d be decent enough as the Lampard to Derby one but it’s not what the Robins need and I don’t think Gerrard would be that interested either.
He’s got a massive job at Rangers and will be looking to topple Celtic whilst City need a proven promotion winner with top Championship experience.
Gerrard commands great respect but still has much to learn as a manager and the Robins need to be going after a Chris Hughton.

What an appointment this would be.
I’ll admit that I had my doubts as to whether Gerrard would be capable of managing at a high level so early into his managerial career, but he’s certainly proven me wrong.
I think he’d be a brilliant appointment by Bristol City if they were successful in their approach for the former Liverpool midfielder.
He’d have a similar impact to that of Frank Lampard with Derby County last season, and I think he’d be the ideal manager to take the Robins forward.
However, I do have my doubts as to whether he’ll leave Rangers, as he’ll want to finish the project he started at Ibrox.
