Preston and SPFL giants Rangers are both interested in signing Kilmarnock attacker Eamonn Brophy according to the Daily Mail, with Alex Neil setting a target of signing another striker in January as a priority.

North End are a striker short with Louis Moult out injured for the season, whilst Sean Maguire has been playing on the left flank - Jayden Stockley and David Nugent have fared well lately, but another striker is a must in January.

So would Brophy be a good addition at Deepdale?

Ned Holmes

"This looks like it could be a really smart addition for Preston.

"They lost Louis Moult to a season-long injury in August, so adding some more firepower to their squad makes a lot of sense.

"Brophy looks like an exciting young forward with a lot of potential–as evidenced by the attention he's received from the likes of Rangers.

"Preston have fallen back from the top two and now find themselves in the midst of the battle for the play-offs, an addition like this in January could be just what they need to help them get over the line."

George Harbey

"I think that Brophy would be a decent signing for North End, however they've got to make sure that he doesn't out to be a new Louis Moult.

"He scored a decent amount of goals in all competitions last season but has failed to replicate that form this season, scoring just four goals thus far.

"Nevertheless, he looks to be a striker who could really fit North End's system really well, and I'd say that a new striker is needed because David Nugent is getting on a bit now.

"Jayden Stockley has come up leaps and bounds under Alex Neil, though, however competition for places can only be a good thing for Preston in their bid for a play-off finish."

Josh Cole

“Whilst there is no doubting Brophy’s talent, it may be beneficial for Preston to avoid signing him in the January transfer window given his recent record in-front of goal.

“Despite being a regular starter for Kilmarnock this season, the forward has only managed to find the back of the net on three occasions in the Scottish Premiership.

“When you consider just how competitive the Championship is, there is no guarantee that Brophy will be able to cope at this particular level of football.

“Furthermore, with Preston currently being able to call upon the likes of Tom Barkhuizen and Sean Maguire amongst others, it could be argued that they may not necessarily need to strengthen their attacking options.”
