Middlesbrough are eyeing up a move for Rangers winger Jordan Jones, according to TeamTalk, though Jonathan Woodgate's side face competition for the 25-year-old with Blackburn Rovers, Stoke City and Swansea City also keen on the winger.

Jones has previous with Boro having come thorough their academy while also making one appearance for the first-team in an FA Cup tie, before departing to join Kilmarnock on a permanent basis.

So would Jones be a good addition at the Riverside and is he actually needed by Woodgate's side?

"I think this could be a really clever move on Boro's behalf.

"Jordan Jones proved during his time at Kilmarnock that he is a quality player but injuries have meant he's struggled to settle at Rangers.

"Ahead of this transfer window, attacking reinforcements must've been a priority for Jonathan Woodgate, so snapping up Jones now would be a great way to wrap up the month.

"It looks a particularly strong move given the injury to Manchester City Patrick Roberts, who looks set for an extended period on the sidelines.

"A number of English sides have been linked with Jones this month and you feel it would be a strong move if Boro can get the deal done."

“Jordan Jones is a useful player to Rangers. He doesn't play often but he serves a purpose in Steven Gerrard's team. A wide midfielder who often finds himself on the left of Rangers' front-three, Jones has a real physical presence and should have no trouble adjusting to the Championship. Game-time at Ibrox this season has been sparse for Jones, but I think he’d get more than enough at the Riverside.

"It’d be a decent signing then. Jones was on the books at Middlesbrough before but never played a first-team game in the Championship for them. It didn’t quite work out in England but Jones made his name in Scotland with Kilmarnock, and was snapped up by Steven Gerrard in the summer.

“Boro could do with a player like Jones. They’ve got a lot of good technical players in the side but often they lack a bit of steel in the heart of the pitch. Jones would provide that and then some, and his attributes should ensure Championship football for another season at the club.

“He’s definitely needed by Jonathan Woodgate, but he might come at a cost. He’s 25-years-old so will soon enter the ‘prime’ years of his career. Middlesbrough might have to pay Rangers a handsome fee for Jones but I think the signing would be well worth it, and I think they’d get a lot of good years from Jones.”

Chris Thorpe

"On paper, the tricky winger would be a good addition for Boro this month as they seek to resurrect their stuttering season.

"Jones has found his game time largely limited at Ibrox this term due to the presence of the likes of Ryan Kent and could be open to making a move away from the club this month.

"Jonathan Woodgate has shown a clear willingness to strengthen his existing ranks this month and the signing of the wideman could go a long way towards unlocking his side's obvious potential.

"With just days left in the current window, this is certainly a deal that people should be keeping tabs on as the club from the north east eye a move for the 25-year-old in the coming days."
