New Portsmouth addition Jayden Reid is set to face an extended spell on the sidelines after suffering a cruciate ligament injury against Luton Town, according to Pompey manager Danny Cowley.

He came on as a substitute against the Hatters but was forced to withdraw from the game after spending less than ten minutes on the pitch, very disappointing for the 20-year-old who was aiming to make his case to Cowley ahead of the new league season.

Winger Reid joined Pompey just seven days ago, putting pen to paper on a one-year contract with the option of a further 12 months after being released from Lee Bowyer's Birmingham City in the summer.

With this fresh start after taking a step down, he was aiming to establish himself as a solid third-tier player and had already impressed in friendlies against Havant & Waterlooville and Bristol City for the south-coast side before picking up this severe injury.

He is now likely to spend a good chunk of this one-year deal on the sidelines - and may have to stay injury-free and continue to impress at Fratton Park in the latter stages of next season if he has any chance of staying on the south coast.

The 20-year-old will now undergo surgery ahead of what looks to be a long road to recovery.

After this news then, how do Portsmouth fans feel about this latest development? Calm? Panicking? Wanting a new signing to come in and replace him whilst he recovers?
