Millwall are weighing up a transfer bid for QPR forward, Matt Smith according to London News Online.

The striker has found regular game time at Loftus Road hard to come by, and it’s no surprise to see him being linked with a move elsewhere heading into next season.

The 30-year-old was restricted to just seven league starts for the Hoops last season, and will be keen to have his long-term future resolved in the near future.

Millwall are in the market for a new striker, after Lee Gregory decided to leave the club after his contract expired.

The Lions seemingly see Smith as the ideal replacement for Gregory, who will leave a sizeable void up-front for Neil Harris’ side.

Smith has experience of playing in the Championship, having played for the likes of Fulham, Bristol City and QPR in the past, and he’ll be keen to recapture his best form as soon as possible.

But would Smith be a good signing for QPR ahead of next season?

We discuss…

George Harbey:

"This is just a typical Millwall signing, but it would be a very good one at that.

"Smith has endured a somewhat tough time at Loftus Road, and had to contend with being behind Tomer Hemed in the pecking order at times last season.

"Millwall definitely need another target man, especially with Steve Morison only having one year left on his deal at The Den, and he's hardly getting any younger.

"Give Smith regular game-time and he will score goals."

Gary Hutchinson:

"No, not one bit.

"He didn't do it in the Championship for QPR, why would would he be a success for Millwall?

"The only positive I can see here is he might fit an 'up and at them' philosophy which Millwall sometimes employ.

"Other than that, it's a non-starter for me."

Kealan Hughes:

"This could be a great signing by Millwall. They are in need of a striker and Smith would offer something different.

"In fact, Smith's ability in the air is unparalleled in the division. That makes him a great option as a start or as a substitute. He has the ability to change games and that is exactly what Millwall need.

"He will need regular game time if he is to score goals however. He had to make do with six goals in the league last season and Millwall will need more from him if they are to avoid a relegation scrap."
