Derby County are keen on Barnsley centre-back Liam Lindsay after his impressive performances in League One last season.

The 23-year-old played a key part as the Tykes won promotion and his performances caught the eye, with the Rams rivalling the likes of Brentford, West Brom, Stoke and Brescia for the defender - according to the Scottish Sun.

The report also states that the Italian outfit have made a £1m bid, although it seems unlikely that will be accepted.

However, those interested sides will be encouraged from the fact that Lindsay is approaching the final 12 months of his contract, therefore a summer transfer could be on the cards.

So, would he be a good signing for Derby?

Our writers take a look...

George Brooks

"Lindsay was brilliant for Barnsley last season and played a vital role as the team won promotion from League One.

"He’s going to get a chance in the Championship next season with Barnsley, but perhaps he could be tempted by a move to Derby and a chance to work under Frank Lampard.

"He’s definitely got potential and could be a great signing for the Rams."

Toby Wilding

"This would be a smart move from Derby.

"It seems that Fikayo Tomori may not be returning to Pride Park next season, so they will badly need to replace him, given what he did for them at the back last season."

"Lindsay's presence at the back, and the confidence he should be brimming with following his promotion with Barnsley last season, would go some way to doing that for The Rams."

Alfie Burns

"The Rams are going to have to strengthen their defensive options in the summer with it looking highly unlikely that Tomori will be returning.

"Lindsay fits the profile of player Lampard likes to work with and his best years are firmly ahead of him.

"If the former Chelsea midfielder can get stuck into the defender in training and mould him into what he wants from his centre-backs, it could be a dream move for Lindsay.

"He improved Tomori so much and could do the same here."
