Huddersfield Town are on the lookout for a new manager, after parting company with Jan Siewert after another defeat on Friday night.

The 37-year-old endured a tough time at the helm of the Terriers, winning just one game in charge and failing to prevent them from dropping out of the Premier League last season.

The Yorkshire club have started this season off in bitterly disappointing fashion, picking up just one point from their opening three games of the campaign, as well as being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Lincoln City last week.

Now, the search is on to find a replacement for Siewert, with Sky Sports claiming that Gary Rowett and former QPR assistant manager John Eustace are on the club's radar.

It is also claimed by Sky, though, that former Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka is keen to speak to Huddersfield about potentially becoming their new manager, having been out of work since the start of the year.

The Spaniard was harshly sacked by Forest despite the Reds sitting within touching distance of the play-offs at the turn of the year, and is now seemingly keen on getting back into work.

Here, we discuss whether Karanka would be a good appointment for the Terriers...

George Harbey

"I was absolutely baffled when Karanka was let go by Forest, and whilst he's available, Huddersfield simply have to go out and acquire his services for sure.

"He walked into a very similar situation at Nottingham Forest - Mark Warburton was sacked, and the Reds needed someone who could go in and pick up results almost immediately, and that's what Karanka did.

"He knows what it takes to get out of the division, having won promotion to the Premier League with Middlesbrough back in 2016, and you would have put good money on Forest finishing in the play-offs had they not parted company with him last season.

"His possession-based football would take a little bit of getting used to at first, but in the long run, this could turn out to be an absolute masterstroke by Huddersfield."

Toby Wilding

"I think this could be a good appointment for Huddersfield.

"Karanka has got plenty of experience in the Championship from his time at Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest, so he will be more than ready to cope with the demands of the division.

"The Spaniard is also someone who can organise his teams well defensively, and with the number of errors that Huddersfield have made in games even since their return to the Championship, you do feel that the solidity Karanka himself brings could help provide some much-needed stability at the club.

"It already seems as though there are several options for Huddersfield to consider, and given how early in the season we are, it could be a smart move for the club to give themselves a bit more time in order to make sure they get the right man in as Siewert’s replacement."

Kealan Hughes

"Karanka is a good manager at Championship level but he is the last thing Huddersfield need right now, so it would be a mistake to go for him.

"After two years spent losing the majority of their games and scoring just 50 league goals from 76 games, Huddersfield fans need attacking football to get excited about, and Karanka wouldn't be able to provide that.

"He bases his game of defensive organisation and being difficult to beat. Huddersfield do need to add that aspect to that their game but they have the players to do so much more this season, and need a manager who can bring out the best in them in an attacking sense.

"Town haven't had a positive goal difference since 2011-12 and entertaining, dynamic football would be much appreciated, get the fans back onside and likely move Huddersfield up the table, and because of that Karanka has to be overlooked."
