Swansea City face competition from the Championship and the Premier League in their pursuit of Chelsea youngster Marc Guehi, according to The Sun, with a host of clubs lining up to sign the 19-year-old.

Norwich and Southampton are joined by Bristol City and Nottingham Forest, who all see the England under-17 World Cup winner as a useful addition, with the trio of second-tier clubs likely to be able to offer regular football, which could give them the upper hand in negotiations with the Blues.

So would Swansea be a good fit for Guehi? Is he needed at the Liberty Stadium?

We discuss........

Chris Gallagher

"Yes, I think he would be a smart addition for the Swans.

"There's no doubt that they need a few new signings in January and they are short of a centre-back. And, the Chelsea man fits the bill for them in so many ways.

"Firstly, Steve Cooper is excellent at working with younger players, so he will know how to get the best out of Guehi. More importantly, he suits their style perfectly. He is capable in possession, can play in a high-pressing side and should thrive if the move goes through.

"On loan, this would be a no-brainer for Swansea and it could help the Premier League side too in the long-term."

Kris Smith

“This could be a clever signing from Swansea as they would be getting a defender with a strong reputation at Stamford Bridge already.

“At 19-years-old, Guehi is a key part of Chelsea’s under-23s side and has made two first-team appearances in the EFL Cup this season, showing that Frank Lampard rates him highly.

“At this point in his career, Guehi needs to start playing regular first-team football to continue his development and stake a claim to make it into Chelsea’s first team so a move to the Championship in Swansea would be ideal.

“Swansea have a solid group of centre-backs under Steve Cooper but adding in Guehi would be sure to solidify what they have going into the second half of the season and add quality in the process.”

"I think this would be a good move for Swansea.

"They do look slightly short on options in the centre of their defence, so it could well be an area they will want to add some quality to if they are to maintain this push for promotion throughout the second half of the campaign.

"Guehi is someone who does look as though he could do that, given the potential he has shown with his rapid rise through the ranks with both Chelsea and England in the past few months.

"With the experience Swansea boss Steve Cooper has working with younger players with his time at both Liverpool and England, you also feel that he would be capable to get the best out of Guehi were he to secure his services, while also helping him to settle at the Liberty Stadium."
