Nottingham Forest recently oversaw their fifth departure of the January transfer window, with Costel Pantilimon departing the City Ground for Cypriot side Omonia.

The 32-year-old was a key player for Forest under both Aitor Karanka and Martin O'Neill last season, making 44 appearances in all competitions following his permanent arrival from Watford.

But the Romanian shot-stopper was deemed surplus to requirements under Sabri Lamouchi in pre-season, with the club bringing in Brice Samba and Aro Muric from Caen and Manchester City respectively.

Subsequently, Pantilimon has now departed the City Ground after failing to make a single appearance this season, joining Omonia Nicosia on a loan deal until the end of the season.

With his contract on Trentside not expiring until the end of next season, it remains to be seen whether Pantilimon is given a chance under Lamouchi next season.

Forest sit third in the Championship after defeating Brentford on Tuesday night - Samba picking up another clean sheet and asserting his authority in-between the sticks.

The Verdict

Pantilimon hardly put a foot wrong at Forest - he was hugely impressive at times under Karanka - but managers have their favourites and he frankly wasn't one under Lamouchi.

The signing of Muric hasn't turned out as planned, but Brice Samba has been fantastic since joining the club and is easily one of the best 'keepers in the Championship.

Forest fans won't be disappointed with this particular departure, but they have every right to thank Pantilimon for his efforts.
