Charlton Athletic conceded a late equaliser against Birmingham City yesterday and many Addicks fans have been left frustrated by Macauley Bonne for squandering a chance to put the Addicks two up in the second half.

The result leaves the Blues five points clear of the bottom three with two games to go, while Charlton remain just two points above the relegation zone.

Birmingham had the chance to take an early lead but Dillon Phillips produced an impressive stop to deny Scott Hogan from the penalty spot.

The Addicks eventually broke the deadlock in the second half, Bonne tapping in the opener from two yards out after Alfie Doughty's low cross.

Lee Bowyer's men looked on course for a vital three points but the Blues found a response in the 3rd minute of injury time through Lukas Jutkiewicz, who converted from close range.

The late goal means that the threat of relegation remains very real for Charlton, who are just one place above the bottom three with two games left to play.

The Addicks will rue Birmingham's late goal but they could have put the result beyond doubt not long before had Bonne converted a relatively simple chance in the 75th minute.

He was unable to find the net – something that doesn't seem to have been missed by the Valley faithful.
