Swansea City boss Steve Cooper has outlined the 'quality' of Wayne Rooney as Derby County travel to South Wales this weekend.

Swansea host Derby in the Championship on Saturday, and fans will be in for a treat with England's all-time top-scorer being on display.

The ex-Manchester United man headed out to the States in 2018 to join DC United, and after a successful stint in the MLS he moved back to England with Derby County.

It was a move that shocked many, but fans are enjoying seeing Rooney in the Championship. Speaking to Wales Online about facing the 34-year-old, Cooper said:

"There’s obvious quality that he still possesses on the ball and we have to be mindful of that. He catches the attention but they have other good players as well. But we’re at home and we want to take the game to them."

Rooney has scored in each of his last three games for the Rams, taking his tally to three in eight games since he arrived last month.

Derby go into this game in some resurgent form, having lost just one of their last ten, that's just one loss since Rooney's long-awaited arrival as player/coach.

Phillip Cocu's side sit in 13th-place of the Championship table though, six points behind 8th-placed Swansea - a win for the Swans on Saturday could take them to within a point of the play-off places.

The verdict

One of England's greatest ever exports, Swansea fans will be excited to see Rooney in action on Saturday. But Cooper must prepare his team for the arrival of what is a strong and in-form Derby squad.

They're more than just Rooney though, and Swansea need to be mindful of that. At home, Swansea should have enough backing and form of their own take the points, and continue in search a top-six spot.
