Swansea City boss Steve Cooper has hinted that he'd like an out and out striker to come into the club and help the Swans in their promotion bid this season in the Championship.

Cooper led his team to the play-off semi-finals last season where they gave Brentford a scare and they again look like contenders this time around for a top six finish at the very least.

This, too, comes without them having a real recognised striker leading the line with Jamal Lowe and Andre Ayew doing what they can to get the goals.

Indeed, Cooper would like to add a real number nine to his charges and hinted as much last night, speaking after their defeat to Middlesbrough.

He said, via Wales Online:

"You always want an out and out striker who's going to get you more goals than anybody else in the team, it's always a nice thing to have.

"But as I always say, we'll get as best we can out of the boys we've got, try to put the right plan together and get it to work as best we can and see if it can win us games."

The same outlet has suggested that Cooper could look to make moves in the January window, too, and so it appears a forward is top of his wishlist.

The Verdict

Swansea are a top team and if they could add a bonafide forward to their ranks it would really boost them further in their promotion challenge.

We saw last year what they could do as Rhian Brewster came in from Liverpool to help fire in the goals in the second half of the season and a similar move could be all the Swans need this year to return to the Premier League.
