After an impressive performance against Middlesbrough on Sunday brought some confidence back to Thomas Christiansen’s Leeds United, the Whites were brought crashing back down to earth last night, as Wolves handed them a 4-1 defeat at Molineux.

Leeds were blown away by the Sky Bet Championship’s leaders, who are beginning to look like an unstoppable force at the top of the division, but Christiansen will be disappointed by the number of mistakes his side continue to make.

One player who was guilty of mistakes last night was Andy Lonergan, who in his seven appearances in the Championship this season, has conceded 13 goals, keeping just one clean sheet.

Lonergan was brought into the side to replace Felix Wiedwald, who found himself under pressure following a string of difficult fixtures, however, here at FLW, we believe it is time for the German goalkeeper to come back into the starting XI for Saturday’s trip to Barnsley.

Wiedwald was a key part of Leeds’ fantastic start to the season, which saw them keep six consecutive clean sheets over August and September, as Christiansen’s side flourished.

Of course, Wiedwald made mistakes, most notably in the 3-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, but his general shot-stopping is streets ahead of Lonergan, who has made his fair share of mistakes since returning to the starting XI.

Another key part of Leeds’ new style is playing out from the back, with the goalkeeper’s role in that absolutely vital. Wiedwald has superior distribution to Lonergan, and the latter’s return to the first-team has hindered the style Christiansen wants to play.

Leeds will have plenty to reflect on following a difficult evening at Molineux, but one thing was evident – Lonergan needs to come out of the firing line.
