It's been a tough campaign for both Midlands teams in the Championship this season and there's still doubt hanging over the survival of Birmingham City, who still have it all to do this weekend!

The Blues travel to Bristol City knowing a win will keep them in the division, whilst Aston Villa have very little to play for this campaign, with a mid-table finish on the horizon.

But pressing ahead and despite the very obvious rivalry between the two clubs, there's one Villa man we think might need to go out on-loan to get some first-team experience next season and that's £425,000-rated midfielder Jordan Lyden.

The Australian-born 20-year-old is thought to be one of the brightest prospects coming through the ranks at Villa Park but at his age, he needs first-team football. And with the vast improvements to the squad manager Steve Bruce has already made, coupled with the additions we're expecting to see this summer, it might be tough for him to get game-time.

The likes of Lansbury, Gardner, Bjarnason, Jedinak and Hourihane are already fighting it out for first-team football in the middle-of-the park and it's all a bit congested in that position.

But over at Birmingham City, there's expected to be a big overhaul over the summer and it's unlikely everyone who is currently in the squad will be there in a couple of months time.

That could then cue a move for Lyden to make a temporary switch to St Andrews, despite his obvious Villa connections. He's a good ball-playing midfielder who just needs a chance. And after Birmingham's struggles this time around, change won't be a bad thing at all over the summer, if the right decisions are made.
