Charlton's disappointing last-minute 2-1 defeat to Bristol City yesterday evening, saw Lee Bowyer's side lose ground on the play-off places, as they slipped down to 10th.

The sides went into the break level, but it was the Addicks that struck first in the 65th minute, with Macauley Bonne scoring his third goal in successive games.

The Robins' came back into the game through Famara Diedhiou ten minutes later, but Charlton were unable to hold on to the draw as Josh Brownhill won it for the hosts with seconds to spare.

However, the result was not the only disappointment for Lee Bowyer yesterday.

During the first half, Charlton made two enforced changes, as both Sam Field and Jake Forster-Caskey suffered injuries.

It was also announced after the final whistle that Charlton's Welsh attacking midfielder Jonny Williams had undergone surgery on his knee, ruling him out for a minimum of two months.

With Lyle Taylor still weeks away from full fitness, Bowyer now faces an injury crisis ahead of the visit to The Hawthorns to face top of the table West Bromwich Albion this Saturday.

Dealing with injuries to four first-team players could prove costly in their race for the play-offs, as each one offers something different to the side.

Let's start with Jonny Williams. The Welshman has made 9 starts for the Addicks this season, with three appearances coming off the bench.

He has five assists to his name - which puts him top of the Championship standings, showing he has been a key player in the final third for Lee Bowyer's side.

Williams suffered the injury in Charlton's 3-0 win against Derby at The Valley, and his absence will be a massive blow for club and country. It gives a chance for Erhun Oztumer to impress, however.

Defensive midfielder Sam Field was taken off on a stretcher during yesterday's 2-1 loss to Bristol City, and early signs are that it does not look promising.

Lee Bowyer stated post-match that the medical staff suspect it to be a bad knee injury. The youngster has made 9 league appearances, impressing on loan from West Brom so far. It may mean his parent club are forced to recall him if the injury is serious.

Three minutes after Field was taken off, Jake Forster-Caskey was substituted, with a suspected hamstring injury, which may rule the 25-year-old for a few weeks.

As all three can play in midfield, it leaves Bowyer short in the middle of the park, which is not good news.

We know how much Lyle Taylor has been missed by his side with his knee injury, but considering the crisis the team now faces, the 29-year-old is in a race against time to regain full fitness.

With the busy December fixture schedule on the horizon, Charlton will be hoping for good news in the next couple of weeks, or else it could cost them dearly.
