Sunderland, preparing for their first season in the second-tier for the best part of a decade, have discovered their fixtures ahead of the 2017/18 Championship campaign.
The Black Cats kick-off their year on Friday 4th August under the floodlights against Gary Rowett’s Derby County and play three successive away games prior to welcoming potential promotion chasers Leeds United.
Without a manager as of yet, the club can look forward to a local rivalry encounter against fellow relegated outfit Middlesbrough at Riverside in early November, the reverse fixture being played at home three months after that.
They suffer a game on the road to promoted Sheffield United on Boxing Day and that is followed by a dreadful trip fairly south to Mark Warburton’s Nottingham Forest.
Sunderland end the 2017/18 season hosting Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Stadium of Light.
Here is how the fans reacted to their fixture list following the release early on Wednesday morning….
Not super excited about our first four fixtures, but once this takeover is completed and we have a new manager, we can get to work. #SAFC

Any fixtures at all are difficult to comprehend at the moment! #SAFC

At least we'll continue our tradition of not winning in August, so that's something #SAFC

#safc live on sky August 4th. We have no players, no manager and an owner desperate to sell with 7ish weeks to go.

Tough start for #SAFC but it's genuinely refreshing to see a whole new set of teams to lose against.
