Northern Ireland stunned Czech Republic earlier this week as they ran out 3-2 winners in a closely-fought battle.

Michael O'Neill's side raced into a three goal lead on the night, with Paddy McNair (2) and Jonny Evans both getting on the scoresheet.

Czech Republic had recently beat a below-par England just days ago, but found themselves three goals behind at the break.

But they scored twice in the space of two minutes to make it a tense finish, although Northern Ireland held on to take the win.

Sunderland's Conor McLaughlin took to Twitter following the win on Monday evening, as Northern Ireland wrapped up the international break in the best way possible.

McLaughlin will return to Sunderland in the near future, where they'll be preparing for their game against Wycombe Wanderers this weekend.

But the Black Cats are still yet to appoint Jack Ross' successor, and the club's supporters will be keen to see a new manager in the dugout for the trip to Adams Park.

Kevin Phillips has recently revealed that Sunderland could make an appointment as early as today, so it remains to be seen as to whether that will be true or not as the hours tick by.

McLaughlin made nine league appearances for the League One outfit under Jack Ross' guidance, and it'll be interesting to see whether he can continue to feature for them as the season progresses.

The Verdict:

He'll be keen to build on this when he returns to Sunderland.

McLaughlin and his Northern Ireland teammates looked impressive in the win over Czech Republic recently, and they certainly took the home side by surprise on the night.

Sunderland will be hoping to have a new manager appointed as soon as possible, so that they can get their promotion bid back on track this season, as they look to go one better than their play-off final pain last term at Wembley.
