Conor Hourihane has delivered a passionate message to Aston Villa fans, after the dramatic penalty shootout victory over West Brom in their Championship play-off semi-final last night.

Villa lost the second leg of their semi-final 1-0 at the Hawthorns, thanks to a first-half header from Albion defender Craig Dawson.

West Brom midfielder Chris Brunt was sent off in the second half, but the hosts were able to hold on, as the match went to penalties.

Goalkeeper Jed Steer was the hero in the shootout, making two important saves, allowing Tammy Abraham to score the winner, as Villa won 4-3 on penalties.

Hourihane has been an influential player for Villa this season, scoring seven goals and providing twelve assists for his teammates in 43 appearances in the Championship.

The midfielder played an important role in both legs of the play-off semi-final against West Brom, scoring a spectacular 25-yard equaliser in the first leg and playing the entire game last night, scoring his penalty in the shootout.

Villa will now face either Leeds United or Derby County in the Championship play-off final at Wembley, with the second leg of their semi-final taking place tonight at Elland Road.

The Verdict:

Hourihane has been an important player for Villa in the Championship this season and played very well in both legs of the play-off semi-final against West Brom.

The midfielder suffered play-off heartache at Wembley with Villa last season and will be even more determined to win this time around, but it will be a tough game against either Leeds or Derby in the final.
