Conor Gallagher scored a stunning 25-yard strike as Charlton sealed an emphatic 3-0 victory over Derby County at The Valley on Saturday afternoon.
Macauley Bonne had given the Addicks the lead inside six minutes before Naby Sarr added a second just after the break, and Gallagher then completed the scoring with his long-range effort in the 67th minute.
It was the fifth goal Gallagher has scored for Charlton since completing his season-long loan move from Chelsea over the summer, with the midfielder has having made a significant impression in his 12 appearances so far.
Gallagher’s excellent performances have helped Charlton climb to within four points of the Championship summit, while they also earned him a place in the England U21 side over the international break.
The 19-year-ol delivered another impressive showing alongside Josh Cullen at the heart of the Addicks’ midfield on Saturday, which he capped off with a memorable strike to seal his side’s sixth victory of the campaign.
Following the match, Gallagher took to Instagram to share a post regarding his goal:
Gallagher accompanied the video with the caption ‘Enjoyed that one’, and it’s clear that the midfielder is relishing what is his first season in senior football after progressing through Chelsea’s academy ranks.
Is Conor Gallagher Charlton's most important player at the moment?
Gallagher arrived at Charlton as something of an unknown quantity having never played in senior football previously, but it has quickly become evident that Charlton have a unique talent on their hands.
The 19-year-old works extremely hard in the centre of the pitch to contribute to both defence and attack, while his moment of brilliance against the Rams is evidence of the sheer quality he possesses.
He’s clearly enjoying his football at the moment and he could not be playing for a better team, with Charlton thriving on their return to the Championship.
