Conor Gallagher has described it as a "pleasure" to have played for Charlton following Chelsea's decision to recall the midfielder from his loan spell at the Championship club.

The 19-year-old has thrived since joining the Addicks on a season-long loan deal over the summer, but he has now been recalled by his parent club as they now look to send him to a higher-placed Championship side, with Swansea reportedly leading the race.

Gallagher became a regular feature in Charlton's midfield during the first half of the campaign, with the England youth international scoring six goals and registering three assists during his 26 appearances for Lee Bowyer's side this term.

The Chelsea academy product had formed a productive midfield partnership with Josh Cullen prior to the West Ham loanee's injury troubles, with Gallagher having offered a creative and hard-working presence in the centre of the park.

It now appears as though Gallagher will join Championship play-off contenders Swansea for the remainder of the season, with the midfielder having elected to link up with former England Under-17 boss Steve Cooper and Chelsea team-mate Marc Guehi.

The Verdict

Chelsea's decision to recall Gallagher would have come as hugely surprising to Charlton given he was receiving regular playing time at The Valley, and his latest message suggests he was also enjoying his football under Bowyer at the club.

However, Gallagher would have known this recall was always a possibility given the clause was included in the deal when he joined Charlton, and he must now focus on settling in his new surroundings at Swansea when the move is confirmed.

There can be no doubt that Gallagher will be a big loss for Charlton given the amount he has played this season, but the Addicks must now move on and turn their attention to finding a replacement for the Chelsea prospect.
