Barnsley will be hoping that they can benefit from a break in competitive action, with the EFL recently announcing that fixtures won't get back underway until it is deemed safe enough to do so.

The Tykes are currently sat bottom of the Championship table, and will know that results simply have to improve at the earliest of opportunities if they're to stand a chance of survival this term.

Gerhard Struber's side have lost their last two matches against both Cardiff City and Reading, which has left them seven points adrift of safety with nine games remaining in this year's campaign.

One player that will be key to any hopes they have of retaining their Championship status this season is Conor Chaplin, with the former Portsmouth forward having 12 goals and five assists to his name.

Speaking in an interview with the club's official website, Chaplin admitted that he would prefer to have supporters in attendance for when football does return.

"Personally I’d like to think that football will only be resumed when it’s safe to do so with full stadiums. Fans make so much more than just atmosphere at a game. Football is all about fans and the energy and connection from the pitch to the stands.

"But that’s a personal opinion, there are way more important people who will make those tough decisions!"

The Verdict:

I have to agree with Chaplin here.

Even though I'm pleased to see the EFL announce that fixtures will get back underway when deemed safe enough to do so, I do think that supporters should be back in stadiums when that time does come.

Barnsley will need their supporters behind them in person to play their part in backing the team as they battle for survival in the Championship this season.

Chaplin has been impressive for the Tykes this term, and will be keen to be at his best when they do return to action, as their survival hopes could hinge on his performances.
