Ipswich Town have recently completed a deal to sign Conor Chaplin on a permanent basis from Championship side Barnsley.

Chaplin had been with the Tykes since 2019, and went on to make 39 appearances for the Yorkshire-based side during the 2020/21 season.

The former Portsmouth man chipped in with four goals and three assists in all competitions for Barnsley last term, although his efforts weren't quite enough to see them win promotion into the Premier League, after a defeat to Swansea City in their play-off semi-final.

Chaplin has signed for an Ipswich Town side that will be looking to win promotion into the Championship next term, whilst under the management of Paul Cook.

The Tractor Boys finished () in the League One table last term, and will be eager to make a positive start to the new league campaign.

Chaplin took to Twitter following the announcement of his arrival at Portman Road, and issued an upbeat two-word message ahead of the new season.

This isn't the first time Chaplin has played in League One, having represented both Portsmouth and Coventry City at this level earlier in his career.

Chaplin could be in line to make his league debut for Ipswich Town in the near future, as they prepare for their season opener against newly-promoted Morecambe on the opening day of the 2021/22 campaign.

The Verdict:

He'll be hoping he can make a positive start to life at Portman Road.

It did come as a slight surprise to see Chaplin drop into the third tier of English football, as I thought he would have been a good enough option to have for some Championship teams.

So, it's somewhat of a coup for Ipswich Town to land his signature this summer, and it shows they're serious about their promotion ambitions this term.

It's a real statement of intent by the Tractor Boys, as they look to win promotion back into the Championship this season, whilst under the management of Paul Cook.
