Conflicting reports have emerged this afternoon regarding the future of Burnley star Dwight McNeil.

Earlier this afternoon, Sky Sports reported that West Ham United and Crystal Palace were in talks with the Clarets over a potential deal for the wide-man.

Their report also claimed that the player was set to command a significant price tag, too, claiming that Burnley will be looking for upwards of £15 million for their player.

McNeil himself was also said to be keen on a return to the Premier League.

However, in a further update this afternoon, Burnley Express sports editor Chris Boden has claimed that the reports are 'typical transfer mischief'.

As per Boden on Twitter, Burnley are not in talks with anybody regarding Dwight McNeil.

An out and out wide midfielder - a bit old school in some ways - McNeil is a player that can get up and down the touchline, and, provide a brilliant left-footed delivery when required.

Given how extensively he has featured for Burnley in recent campaigns, it is easy to forget he is still only 22 years of age.

Despite that, he has still managed to rack up just shy of 150 Premier League appearances (147).

McNeil currently has two years remaining on his Burnley contract, with the club holding the option to trigger a further year.

The Verdict

This is an interesting update regarding Dwight McNeil.

With all the signings Burnley have been making and the talk surrounding Maxwel Cornet's future, you sort of almost forget McNeil was still a Clarets player.

He's someone the club are in a strong position to keep given his contract status, but he is a Premier League player in my eyes. You don't rack up the number of appearances he has in the top-flight unless you have quality.

If the clubs are interested, it will be interesting to see if either can match Burnley's valuation.

However, it seems that for now, the Clarets may not even be discussing the players sale with anybody.

I have to say, if that remains the same by the end of the window, I'd be surprised, purely because of the talent McNeil posssesses.
