Middlesbrough attacker Adama Traore has finally signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers, the club have announced.

The Premier League side have revealed the signing of the 22-year-old after a summer-long chase for the former Barcelona man.

The club-record fee is believed to be in the region of £18million, a fee that triggered the release clause for the former Boro man.

Middlesbrough have been braced for the exit of the young Spaniard all summer with Wolves having a £12million bid rejected earlier in July.

Traore scored five goals in 40 appearances last term for Boro, notching 11 assists.

The winger has signed a five-year deal at Molineux and was one of Nuno Santos’ top transfer targets following promotion.

Traore becomes Wolves’ ninth summer signing and by default is the seventh to leave the Riverside this summer with manager Tony Pulis now needing to step up his search for a replacement.

The transfer window closes in just over 24-hours for permanent deals, while the loan window continues to operate until August 31.

The verdict

The winger leaving is a massive blow for Boro, but it is not one that was unforeseen.

Traore’s transfer saga has dragged on all summer and has been in the offing for weeks.

With the player now gone and the funds in the bank, manager Pulis will have to work overtime to bring in a permanent replacement before the window slams shut tomorrow evening.

The Spaniard was hugely influential for a Middlesbrough side that made it to the play-off semi-final last year.

He will be a massive loss, and someone with the talent he had at his age will be tough to replace.
