Wolverhampton Wanderers have announced via their official Twitter page that U23 midfielder Ryan Rainey has joined National League side Chester FC on a month-long loan deal.

The 21-year-old has impressed in the reserve side at Molineux this season, and a switch to the fifth tier to engage in regular first team action appears to be the perfect move for this player at this stage.

Opportunities to break into the first team set-up in the Black Country are hard to come by this season, with a number of top foreign recruits joining the club this summer as boss Nuno Santo goes in search of promotion to the Premier League.

The Portuguese boss feels that Rainey is not quite ready to challenge for a spot in his match-day squad, so a chance to impress with the Cheshire side is the perfect opportunity for the youngster to force his way into the reckoning at Wolves.

The Verdict

Wolves have a number of top young players on their books, with the likes of Connor Ronan and Jack Price appearing in the first team squad this season.

Rainey is a little behind his peers, but regular first team action with the National League strugglers could see rapid development overcome the promising academy graduate.

Whether Rainey has a long-term future at Molineux remains to be seen, but this chance could afford him the opportunity to earn a deal elsewhere if his time at the club does indeed come to a premature end.
