Confirmed: Winger leaves Reading to join mid-table outfit

Reading have confirmed that Romanian winger Adrian Popa has left the club to join Saudi Arabian mid-table outfit Al-Taawoun on a loan deal that runs until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old only made 16 league appearances for Reading, who became the first club Popa played for outside of Romania, when he joined in 2017.

His only goal for the club came in March, when he scored a late strike against Sheffield Wednesday, who turned over the Royals in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday night.

Popa could potentially make his Pro League bow for his loan side against Al-Nassr at home on Tuesday or away to Al-Faisaly this weekend, dependent on when the relevant paperwork is submitted.

The Verdict

Popa only made six league appearances this season and last played in mid-December, when he got a two minute outing against Cardiff City.

Jaap Stam clearly feels his relegation battle will survive without Popa and it is hard to disagree.
