West Brom have confirmed that they have re-signed Boaz Myhill on a one-year deal, despite releasing the keeper last month.

The experienced stopper joined the Baggies in 2010 but was let go in the summer as the club looked to freshen up their goalkeeping department.

And, they did so, bringing in Sam Johnstone as number one from Manchester United to replace Ben Foster, whilst Jonathan Bond arrived as back-up.

Despite that, goalkeeping coach Neil Cutler stated that he wants three good options to work with throughout the season, which prompted Albion to go back for Myhill who was a free agent.

He trained with the club for the past few weeks as he looked for a new club, and clearly impressed, with the Baggies confirming on their website that he had joined today.

It will mean he approaches a ninth season with the West Midlands side, although he has only played 82 games in that time.

However, he told the official site his experience could benefit the two younger keepers in the squad.

"I have spoken to Sam and ‘Bondy’ - they’re different characters to each other and to me and I think Neil (Cutler) was keen to add my experience in that mix."

The Verdict

This is a strange signing as Albion just released Myhill but it does make sense.

He has obviously shown his talent in training and convinced Albion he will be good back-up this season, whilst he knows the club and has experience at a high level.

Now, it's down to the player to push Johnstone and perhaps Bond, so they can continue to improve.
