West Brom have confirmed the signing of Wes Hoolahan, with the playmaker signing an initial deal to January.

The 36-year-old was released by Norwich at the end of the season and had been training with Albion with a view to earning a deal.

And, the club confirmed on their website today that he had impressed enough to sign a short-term deal with the Baggies.

Hoolahan has signed up until January, although there will be an option to extend that deal in the New Year.

Albion boss Darren Moore was very pleased to secure a deal for the former Ireland international and claimed it was a simple decision after watching the attacking midfielder in training:

"In the end, it wasn’t a difficult decision because Wes’s quality was there for all to see and he brings great experience and greater options to our group.

"We had a look at him over three or four days. He is a great pro and I think everyone knows the quality he possesses. He gives us more depth and fantastic experience.

"The agreement is short term but there is the potential for Wes to stay longer if things work out."

Hoolahan hasn't signed in time to feature against Birmingham tonight, but could be involved when West Brom face Bristol City on Tuesday.

The Verdict

On a short-term deal this looks like a deal that makes a lot of sense for Albion.

Hoolahan has fantastic experience, including winning promotion from this league, but also has the quality to still make an impact.

Moore has changed the style of play at West Brom over the summer and it will suit Hoolahan, even if he is used as a squad player.
