Portsmouth have completed the loan signing of Anton Walkes who has joined the League One side until the end of the season from Tottenham Hotspur.

The 20-year, who can also play at the back, spent last season with MLS side Atlanta United and made his debut for Spurs in 2016.

He will now join up with Pompey for the remainder of the campaign and boss Kenny Jackett has revealed he was delighted to bring the youngster in.

“He can play in midfield, the centre of defence or at right-back and he’s an athletic player, so we’re pleased to add him for the rest of the season,” he told the official website.

“The experience of coming to a club like Pompey will be a good one for him and he’ll be keen to help us move towards the top six. He’s someone I have a lot of time for and think he’s got a very bright future. He’s certainly got all the tools to succeed.”

Walkes will not go into the squad for Saturday’s game against Doncaster Rovers at Fratton Park.

The Verdict

Portsmouth have had a reasonably busy January and they have brought in a lot of young, exciting players of which Walkes is the latest.

He has a good pedigree and will benefit immensely from playing competitively and regularly with Pompey.

For the team, he brings versatility and added options for Jackett which could be vital as the season progresses.
