Reading have completed the signing of Sam Baldock, who has arrived from Premier League outfit, Brighton and Hove Albion.

Confirmation has come this evening on Reading’s official website that Baldock has arrived for an undisclosed fee and agreed a three-year deal at the Madejski Stadium.

The 29-year-old has over 100 goals to his name across his senior career, which has seen him feature for MK Dons, West Ham United, Bristol City and, most recently, Brighton.

Baldock was part of Brighton’s promotion-winning squad during the 2016/17 campaign, scoring 12 goals across all competitions for Chris Hughton’s side.

Over the course of his four-year spell with Brighton, Baldock made 94 appearances and scored 20 goals.

Last season, as Brighton survived their first year of Premier League football, Baldock found himself on the fringe, making just five appearances, with only two of those coming in the Premier League.

The striker has now agreed a deal with Reading back in the Championship, committing himself to the Royals until at least the summer of 2021.

He takes the No.9 shirt in Paul Clement’s squad ahead of the new season, which begins this weekend when Reading welcome Derby County to the Madejski on Friday evening.

The Verdict

Baldock has struggled for game time at Brighton over the last 12 months and this move will help him back on the right track.

For Reading, Baldock could be a great addition.

If the striker can find his best, he could be prolific at the Madejski Stadium.

The Royals struggled last season, but if Baldock hits the ground running, he could help them challenge higher up the table.
