Andre Green has left Aston Villa, linking up with Portsmouth in League One on a season-long loan.

Confirmation has come this evening that Green will spend the year away from Villa Pak developing, with the winger linking up with Kenny Jackett’s Portsmouth in League One.

Steve Bruce has moved to add Anwar El Ghazi and Yannick Bolasie to his Aston Villa squad over the course of the last week, with that duo now competing with Ahmed Elmohamady and Albert Adomah for a place on the wing.

That has opened the door for Green to depart, with the youngster’s opportunities looking limited.

So far in his senior career, Green, 20, has made 31 senior appearances for Villa, scoring once.

This season, he’s made five appearances, featuring in four of Villa’s five Championship fixtures, however, Villa’s busy week on the transfer front has led to an opportunity at Portsmouth arising.

Green links up with Jackett’s side, who are currently going well in League One.

Pompey have picked up 13 points from their opening five fixtures of the season, which leaves them sitting third in the table, with only Peterborough United and Sunderland above them at this early stage.

The Verdict

Green is a talented player, but it did appear that his opportunities were going to look limited this season.

For that reason, a move out on loan makes sense, with Portsmouth a club on the rise and looking like a good destination for the winger to continue his development.

Jackett is the type of manager who will get the best out of a player like Green, with this move potentially a great one for all involved.
