Swansea City right-back Connor Roberts has today put to bed any doubts over his future by signing a new long-term deal, announced the club's official website

The deal will keep the 23-year-old at the club until the summer of 2022 after experiencing a real breakthrough season under Graham Potter.

So far he has played every single minute for the Swans this season, becoming an integral member of a thoroughly impressive defensive unit.

Alongside the likes of Joe Rodon, Marcus Olsson and Mike van der Hoorn they have kept eight clean sheets this season, giving them the second best defensive record in the league, behind only Middlesbrough.

Roberts had been the subject of interest from Scottish giants Celtic whilst his contract situation was up in the air, but this will extinguish any chance of that happening.

He joins Matt Grimes, Joe Rodon and Jay Fulton in agreeing new terms with the club this season as Potter looks to take the club back to the Premier League.

The Swans currently sit in eighth place in the Championship table with 17 games played and just two points behind sixth-placed Derby County.

The verdict

This utterly brilliant news for Swansea.

Roberts has been one of the division's stand-out defenders this season and will have been the subject of plenty of interest in the January transfer window.

But this deal settles his future for the time being and gives the club some much-needed stability.
