Swansea boss Graham Potter has enjoyed a positive start to his managerial spell in charge of the club, and he will be confident of pushing for a top-six finish this season.

Potter has been boosted by the news that one of his key defenders have signed a new contract with the club, with their contract previously expected to expire at the end of this years campaign.

Joe Rodon has been a regular in the Swansea side this season and the 21-year-old has broken through to the first-team in a breakthrough season for the youngster.

The Swans announced that the central-defender had signed a new deal on their social media page.

Rodon came through the Swansea academy and spent time out on loan at Cheltenham Town last season, but has certainly made a good impression on Graham Potter and has gone on to feature 11 times in total for the Swans.

He has formed an impressive partnership in the centre of the Swansea defence alongside Mike van der Hoorn and he has been part of the squad that has conceded just 11 goals this season in the Championship.

The Welshman was also called up to Ryan Giggs' Wales senior side for their games against Spain and Ireland but didn't feature at all over the international break.

Rodon and his Swansea team mates will be hoping to stay in the hunt for a play-off place when they face relegation threatened Rotherham United at the weekend in a game they will be expected to win.

The Verdict:

News of the new deal signed by Rodon is fantastic news for Swansea, as there would have been many clubs tracking him with his contract ending in the summer.

But the youngster will play a crucial part in their promotion bid this season as they target an immediate return to the Premier League under Graham Potter.

If he can maintain his excellent partnership with Mike van der Hoorn then I am certain that Swansea will be in the top-six by the end of the season.
