Andre Ayew is poised to leave Swansea City on loan, the club have announced.

The striker is set to join Turkish side Fenerbahce on a season-long loan, with an option to make the deal permanent should the temporary move be deemed a success.

Ayew re-joined the Swans in January on a three-and-a-half-year deal for a club-record fee of £18million having sold the striker to West Ham for £20million, 18-months prior.

The 28-year-old failed to score in his 12 appearances since returning to the Liberty Stadium, a run that coincided with relegation from the Premier League.

He scored three goals last season, all for West Ham before the move.

Being the club’s record signing, Ayew would have been on bumper wages that would have been unsustainable for the now Championship side with Financial Fair Play rules needing to be adhered to.

Boss Graham Potter eventually let the striker leave on loan with the club continuing to rebuild and restructure ahead of their new Championship campaign.

Potter told the club’s official site: "I understand the circumstances of the move - it’s part of the restructure of us going forward.”

"From my perspective, he has been brilliant. He has applied himself in training, supported what we are trying to do and been very professional.”

The Verdict

With Ayew finally out of the club and the one running transfer saga of the Swansea man now over, it is likely his career in south Wales is now over.

The Ghana international moved back for big money in January but was a goalscoring flop, failing to find the net in an attempt to help Swansea avoid relegation.

Now the big wages have left the building, this will free up some finds for manager Graham Potter to continue to transform his squad after his appointment at the start of the summer.

Ayew was an expensive flop and the Swans can’t have that in the Championship with all the financial pressures that come with relegation.

Potter is working his way through the squad and restructuring accordingly to safeguard the long-term future of the club.

A good move by Potter and the club.
