Swansea City have confirmed that defender Alfie Mawson has left the club, signing a four-year deal with Premier League new boys, Fulham.

The Welsh club didn't reveal the fee that the former Barnsley man went for, but recent reports suggested they would be getting around £15m for the 24-year-old.

Mawson joined the Swans back in 2016 after a fine spell with Barnsley, and although he struggled initially to break into their team, he established himself as a regular under Paul Clement.

Then, he was one of few players to emerge with credit from last season, where he played every minute of the campaign, that ultimately ended in relegation.

The former Brentford man impressed with his commanding displays and even got a call-up to the England squad as a result.

He is the latest player to leave the Liberty Stadium in what has been a very busy summer, with Lukasz Fabianski, Andre Ayew and Ki Sung-yeung among those to depart in the past few weeks.

The Verdict

It was inevitable that Mawson would leave, as he is too good for the Championship and this seems a fine move for all parties.

Swansea get a decent fee for the player, which can now be reinvested into the team, whilst Mawson joins an ambitious club in London, which is where he is from.

Now, it's down to Graham Potter to identify a replacement and get some new faces in to strengthen his squad before the deadline.
