Sunderland's Josh Robson has sealed a loan deal to Norwegian side Notodden FK to run until June 30th.

20-year old right back Robson has found chances limited at the Stadium of Light and he follows team mate Michael Ledger in heading to Scandinavia in search of regular football. Ledger joined the OBOS-ligaen side last month after being released by the Black Cats.

Robson did play in the Checkatrade Trophy for Sunderland U21s, but as yet his only first-team experience came as an unused substitute in the League Cup last term. He's described on the Sunderland site as a 'physical defender with a real old-school approach as he takes no chances and does the basics extremely well.'

He's been a regular in the Premier League 2 campaign for the U23s, most recently appearing as Sunderland beat Everton 2-1.

As for Notodden, their season has only just kicked off, they shared an opening day draw with Levanger, with former Black Cat Michael Ledger making his first team debut.

The Verdict

Moving to Scandinavia in search of regular football isn't uncommon these days, but it is a shame that our talent can't find somewhere to ply their trade in this country. Like Ledger, Robson clearly sees more possibilities in Norway than he does in the UK, so of course we wish him all the best.
