Sunderland goalkeeper Marek Stryjek has extended his loan spell with non-league side Eastleigh until December, report the club's official website

The Polish shot-stopper joined the south-coast Conference side in September and has gone on to make five appearances this season.

The 22-year-old has been in impressive form for his temporary club, and after saving a penalty on his debut, he won the club's Player of the Month award for September.

Stryjek has risen through the ranks at the Stadium of Light since joining the under-18 set-up in 2013, but is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Black Cats, spending half of last season on loan with Accrington Stanley in League Two.

Sunderland have been in impressive form themselves so far this season and currently sit in third in the League One table.

Their 2-0 win away to Shrewsbury Town on Saturday brought them to within one point of Peterborough United in second place.

Young striker Josh Maja is also the division's top scorer, netting nine goals in the opening 13 matches of the season.

The Verdict

This makes complete sense.

Stryjek does not have a chance of playing for the Black Cats at the moment, but is still young enough to have an impact in the future, so getting him as much game time as possible makes perfect sense.
