Sunderland have signed Max Power from Wigan Athletic.

Sunderland have confirmed the arrival of Power on an initial loan deal until January with a view to a permanent transfer when the window re-opens in the winter.

This move has been pushed through after the deadline and it was delayed by Wigan waiting to sign Lee Evans from Sheffield United.

Evans has now moved to the DW Stadium, paving the way for Power to complete his loan switch to The Stadium of Light.

The 25-year-old started his career at Tranmere Rovers and moved to Wigan three years ago, where he has featured in League One and the Championship.

During his time with the Latics, Power has twice won promotion and that knowledge of success in League One is vital for Jack Ross' side.

The combative central midfielder made nearly 150 appearances for Wigan during his three year spell with the club but he is now dropping down a league to join Sunderland, who were relegated from the Championship last term.

In a busy summer transfer window, Power becomes the 12th arrival for the Black Cats.

The Verdict

At League One level, this is a perfect signing for Sunderland and further enhances their promotion credentials.

Power is still relatively young but has vast experience, playing around 250 senior games for Tranmere and Wigan.

And he offers exactly what Sunderland are missing in midfield; legs, tenacity, steel and experience of winning promotion.
