Sheffield United midfielder Lee Evans has joined Wigan Athletic, the club's official website confirmed this morning.

Evans joins Wigan on an initial loan deal until January, with the deal then being made permanent.

The reason for this is that Wigan just missed the transfer deadline for a permanent transfer and have to settle for a loan to buy arrangement instead.

The Wales international returns to Wigan, having spent the first half of the 2016/17 season on loan at the DW Stadium before his permanent move from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Sheffield United.

The 24-year-old, formerly of Newport County, scored three times in 67 games for Wolves, three goals in 23 games for Wigan and he has two goals in 21 games for the Blades.

Evans completes some impressive business for the Latics late in the window as he follows Callum Connolly, Josh Windass and Joe Garner to the club.

The Verdict

This is a great signing for Wigan - someone who can really improve the midfield, he is also young, has a point to prove at this level and he knows the club from his time there in League One.

But this is a blow for Sheffield United.

My only thought is that Chris Wilder has a replacement central midfielder lined up or that he is banking on Paul Coutts to hit the ground running on return from injury.
